The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) held its 11th Annual Art Auction: Double Up! On May 7 and it was a huge success! Welcoming over 230 attendees the gallery raised over $50,000, making this year’s event the gallery’s most successful auction to date!

“We are thrilled with the support from the community for our annual art auction,” said Stuart Keeler who is Director of the Art Gallery of Mississauga. “This is our most enthusiastic year yet, and it is particularly fitting as we continue to push forward our most ambitious programming year to date.”

The fundraiser gala was held on the 12th floor of the Mississauga Civic Centre and featured a live auction, a silent auction and a fashion show by Mississauga-based design legend David Dixon. The auction featured almost 100 works of original art by local talent and internationally renowned artists, as well as exotic getaways.

This year was the first time the gallery hosted a two-week Auction Preview exhibition from April 24 – May 5 which attracted over 500 visitors. The preview also included a silent auction art raffle and a full slate of events including two tweetchats, an artist party, print raffle and free talks on corporate art collecting and home d?cor.

“The AGM is building a movement and activating the role of contemporary art in the edge city of Mississauga,” said Keeler. “We trust that you like what we’ve been doing for the past couple of years, and we promise you, we’re just getting started.”

Proceeds from the Auction go directly back to the community through exhibitions, artist projects and workshops, youth education and community-based programmes. Among the many programmes the AGM has planned for the upcoming year are a monthly yoga class, a bi-monthly French language tour, the On Edge Community Conservation series on the role of the artists in an edge city, and the Artist Professional Practices series in the fall.
