UPDATE

“We asked the community of Mississauga for suggestions and were overwhelmed by the response,” says Bill Crawford, executive director. “We had more than 150 entries and it was exciting to hear people talking about it and trying to come up with some good suggestions for us.”

After reviewing the suggestions the Eden Community Food Bank board of directors and staff have narrowed down the entries to the top three:

Eden is now asking Mississauga to vote for their new name by voting online. Voting will be open to the public until end of February with the new name to be revealed at the end of May this year.

In lieu of its growth and 25th anniversary, the Eden Community Food Bank (ECFB) is inviting the community to provide feedback and input for their new name.

While the ECFB’s anniversary is a time to celebrate, the food bank pushes to further define its role to effectively serve the community in the years ahead. While starting out as a traditional food bank, the ECFB has now transitioned into a comprehensive model that brings integrated programming in the areas of healthy food access, food skills development and education, and engagement under one roof.

Today, the ECFB offers a community kitchen, a Fresh Produce Box program and an outreach program that raises awareness about how hunger is a growing problem for many people in the Mississauga community. In recognition of its expanded role and programs, the ECFB was recently given the distinction of being named a “Good Food Organization” by Community Food Centres Canada. More change is in store as Eden continues to expand its role in the community and fulfill its vision of “Good Food For All.”

“This change will not only help people identify Eden as a place that serves the community through its food bank, but also as an organization that provides other services to ensure healthy, nutritious food and skills that are accessible to all,” says Bill Crawford, executive director of the ECFB.

If you wish to submit a name for consideration please do so by emailing Christina Philips at [email protected] by January 30. Please keep in mind that the term Eden will be kept as part of the new name, and the proposed names should stay focused on good food.

About the Eden Community Food Bank
For 25 years, the ECFB has served the community by providing the basic necessity of food families and individuals who would otherwise struggle in hunger. Since its inception, the ECFB has helped over 100,000 people in Mississauga west looking for help to put food on their table. The ECFB has been able to do their part in the community thanks to the donations of time, food and money provided by the community.
