On Tuesday, October 14, Shoeless Joe’s Meadowvale launched their second annual sports-based and community-driven program, the “If Your Team Wins, Your Community Wins!” competition. All-star player and hockey legend and brand ambassador, Doug Gilmour was on hand to support this great cause where fans got a chance to meet the pro and get autographs and chat with “Killer.”

The competition encourages local sports teams to participate for the chance for their community to win up to $20,000 towards a community refresh project.

The Home Team Advantage program rewards local sports teams with points every time they eat at Shoeless Joe’s Sports Grill for a chance to win a first-place prize of $20,000 towards a community refresh project! The community who comes in second place will receive $10,000 and the third place community will win $5,000, compliments of Shoeless Joe’s Sports Grill.

A true team player and fan-favourite, Doug’s commitment to sports and his community is evident through his illustrious hockey career. Today, “Killer” continues to give back to his community as the general manager of the Kingston Frontenacs in his hometown of Kingston, Ontario.

Last year, the Shoeless Joe’s Sports Grill ‘If Your Team Wins, Your Community Wins!’ competition demonstrated an amazing amount of sportsmanship and teamwork from communities across Ontario,” says Doug Gilmour. “This program brings sports teams and communities together to truly make an impact. Going home with the money for a refresh project is a huge benefit for any community, and the camaraderie between teams is a big reward for local sports and recreation.”

I had a chance to be there for the very well attended event and there were tons of Leaf jerseys in the crowd.

After graciously letting me have my picture taken with him, Gilmour explained to me that he’s a firm supporter of helping communities and giving back to them any way he can.

He says “I’m from a small town myself so I appreciate and understand the value in this program and what it can do for a community.”

And yes, I managed to ask him what kind of car he drives… Come on, you should know I’d ask him that!

Here’s how the competition works.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up your team!

All in all, it was a successful night with lots of fans, an unmistakeable positive atmosphere at Shoeless Joe’s (who’s entire team did a remarkable job of putting together an amazing night for all the patrons and fans).

Hats off to the entire organization, Shoeless Joe’s, the organizers, the head office, the fans and especially to Doug Gilmour for contributing to a stellar cause.
