Evidence suggests that the criminal, social, health and legal systems do not always work as effectively as they could in serving the best interests of children who have been a victim of, or a witness to a crime.
A Child Youth and Advocacy Centre (CYAC) was established in response to these concerns. CYACs are community-based and youth focused centres where all services are offered under one roof. Medical examinations, joint investigative interviews and victim advocacy are just some of the services offered.
On October 10, The Safe Centre of Peel and its affiliates will reveal the regional assessment and determine next steps to establishing a CYAC in Peel.
